Making the perfect snowman is as much a science as it is an art. You have to have the perfect kind of snow, for starters. If it’s too fluffy, your snowman is going to be a snow blob before long. If it’s too damp, your mittens will get wet, necessitating a heart wrenching hot cocoa break by the fire while they dry out. You have to consider which kind of coal you’re going to use. Purists will only use freshly mined lumps imported overnight from West Virginia, while the more lenient will settle for store bought briquettes. (Poor dad is in for a nasty surprise come summertime when he wants to grill his steaks if you use up all his briquettes, though.) The carrot is the key to the whole operation. We only use an organic, unpeeled one that was harvested during a full moon. Only the best will do for our snowman nose.
